Divorce doesn’t have to derail your career

Your divorce can have a positive effect on your career. There, I said it. Yes, it is possible to be a successful divorcee. Trust me. I’ve been there and I’ve done that since 8th February 2016 - the day that I call my own personal Independence Day. The day I realised that I was freed up to be my best self - both personally and professionally.

Don’t want to take my word for it? Get this. During a recent study of over 20 million people who divorced in America between 2009-2017, it was found that only 1% were unemployed after their first year following separation. That is an impressive statistic considering the odds are stacked against them.

So if you’ve just been through or are considering a divorce, I want you to know that things are going to be okay. I am, in fact, living, breathing proof that things will get better. You see, as counterintuitive as it sounds, a person's personal life and work do not have to go hand in hand at all times.

Your work life can turn your personal life around. Becoming single again could give you more time to focus on professional goals without worrying about conflicts with others outside of yourself—as well as there being new opportunities for self-development that arise from living alone.

Whatever the reasons for your divorce, remember that you can continue to keep working hard without compromising any goals along the way; all while taking care of yourself too. Your divorce is a new beginning, a chance to refocus on the most important person in your life- YOU. Take a chance on yourself, you won’t regret it.
