Resilience in the age of the pandemic

Another day, another story of how tenacity defeats turmoil. Out of all my kids, it is my little Lucia that really bore the brunt of the domestic violence situation that transpired at our home (as you all know, we are still reeling from the multiple court hearings and other isolated instances of violence from my ex-husband). Lucia was initially really afraid to step out and go to school post the incident and ended up missing a lot of school days.

When she finally mustered the strength to step out, COVID- 19 hit hard and she was left further behind. But just one year later, she’s right back on top of her game and has now made it to the honor roll in her first year at middle school, just like her brother and sister.

The amount of resilience and resolve that each of my children has shown during everything we’ve been through is truly astounding. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from them, it is that you can either let an obstacle break you down, or you can step right over it and let it build you up. As I’m watching my children each day step over it and build themselves up, I want to let you know that tenacity beats turmoil of any amount, of any degree.

Keep going.
